‘Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD.

Blessed are those who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart.’ (Psalm 119:1,2)

Bible delight! – that’s how one writer summarises the Psalm which these two verses introduce.
There is so much treasure in this longest of all psalms, just waiting to be unearthed.
So let’s go on a treasure hunt!
‘I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You’ (v11)
‘Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your law’ (v18)
‘My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to Your word’ (v28)
‘I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out Your precepts’ (v46)
‘The law from Your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold’ (v72)
‘Your word, LORD is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens’ (v89)
‘How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!’ (v103)
‘Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path’ (v105)
‘Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart’ (v111)
‘You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in Your word’ (v114)
‘The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple’ (v130)
‘Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and Your servant loves them’ (v140)
‘Your righteousness is everlasting and Your law’ is true’ (v142)
‘I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in Your word’ (v147)
‘All Your words are true; all Your righteous laws are eternal’ (v160)
‘I long for Your salvation, LORD, and Your law gives me delight’ (v174)
See what I mean?  And that’s just a sampling of the riches available in this psalm alone.  There is so much treasure in God’s word, just waiting for us to unearth it.  What blessings we miss out on when we neglect His word.  But when we read or listen with open and obedient hearts and minds, how blessed we are.
As the old hymn says: ‘How firm a foundation ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in His excellent word.’
Of course the One who speaks to us in His Word is our ultimate treasure.  Blessed indeed are those who ‘seek Him with all their heart’ (v2)
